EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I

MINIMUM SALARY: $1,758.00

JOB DUTIES:
Drives dump, water and oil trucks used in road construction and maintenance; drives pickup truck to transport crew members or haul materials to work sites; operates front-end or track loader to load and unload equipment and materials; operates roller and assists in road base preparation; performs road repair tasks such as crack sealing and patching, tamping, packing and leveling dirt, asphalt, and other materials.

Assists in maintaining vehicles by checking oil, water, hydraulic fluid, and tires; clears brush, cleans drainage ditches, and trims grass and weeds around signs and reflectors.

Erects barricades, installs road signs and reflectors, and directs traffic, as assigned; performs other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a Texas Class A CDL license and satisfactory driving record. Must obtain an X endorsement within six months of employment. Must pass physical examination and drug screen.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II

JOB DUTIES:
Operates heavy equipment such as motor graders, heavy trucks, front-end loaders, bulldozers, oil and asphalt distributors and other equipment used in the construction and repair of county roads and bridges; maintains roads including blading, filling holes, and cleaning ditches; performs road base preparation and sub-grading prior to paving; distributes asphalt and oil to prepared road bases and seal coats roads; assists with patch sealing and pothole repair; assists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roadside culverts; loads materials into trucks using front-end loaders.

Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system to ensure equipment is in proper and safe operating condition; performs other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
One year of experience as an equipment operator, including experience in the operation of heavy road construction equipment. Requires Class A (CDL) license and X endorsement.

EQUIPMENT MECHANIC I

JOB DUTIES:
Performs scheduled vehicle maintenance such as oil, filter, and lubricant changes, grease application, tire rotation, belt, hose, and spark plug replacement, and alignment, battery, and brake system checks.

Uses diagnostic and other equipment to identify and locate engine and mechanical problems; makes repairs to engine, ignition, fuel, electrical, transmission, and brake systems, as needed; orders or obtains parts and supplies needed to make repairs; documents vehicle service, repair, and labor information on work order.

Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly manner; disposes of oil, lubricants, coolants, and other materials in a proper manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Works on and operates equipment in a safe and prudent manner; follows all County safety policies and procedures; assists in fabrication and repair work requiring the use of a cutting torch and welder.

May assist in the repair of diesel and heavy construction equipment under the supervision of a senior mechanic; performs other duties, as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of experience as an automotive and/or light equipment mechanic. Must possess a Class C Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

JOB DUTIES:
Uses diagnostic and other equipment to identify and locate engine and mechanical problems; maintains and repairs trucks, tractors, and other heavy road construction equipment; performs scheduled equipment maintenance such as oil, filter, and lubricant changes, grease application, tire rotation, belt, hose, and spark plug replacement, and alignment, battery, and brake system checks; makes repairs to engine, ignition, fuel, electrical, transmission, hydraulic, and brake systems, as needed.

Orders or obtains parts and supplies needed to make repairs; documents vehicle service, repair, and labor information on work order.

Operates cutting torch and welder to fabricate and/or install toolboxes, trailer hitches, handrails, brackets, shields, protective guards, and other items.

Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly manner; works on and operates equipment in a safe and prudent manner; follows all County safety policies and procedures.

Disposes of oil, lubricants, coolants, and other materials in a proper manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Performs other duties, as assigned.

One year of experience as a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic. Must possess a Texas CDL (Class A) driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

SHERIFF DEPUTY

JOB DUTIES:
Patrol: Protects county residents and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances; patrols the county with emphasis on traffic safety; assists the public (stranded motorists, directions); answers complaints and takes appropriate action; arrests and books violators and completes paperwork and necessary reports; responds to emergency calls; assists federal, state, local law enforcement officials with investigations and emergencies; conducts searches of buildings, vehicles, outdoor areas, persons, and other objects to detect potential weapons, contraband, evidence, hazards, stolen property, or to find lost persons or objects for the purpose of seizing, investigating, and/or rescuing; executes warrants and serves subpoenas and civil papers.

Courthouse Security: Insures a safe environment for the public and employees using the Tom Green County and District Court buildings; observes individuals entering court and building complexes to identify unusual or suspicious behavior; operates metal detectors and X-ray scanning machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; seizes dangerous items such as knives, razors and box cutters, scissors and other sharp instruments and pepper spray; makes arrests for unlawful possession of drugs, switchblade knives, and other Penal Law violations.

Mental Health: Responds to calls from law enforcement agencies, court personnel, hospitals, and other health care providers regarding persons in mental heath crisis; utilizes knowledge of basic medical and psychiatric symptoms/behaviors to evaluate persons, and determines and takes appropriate action; transports patients to mental health facilities; serves as officers of the mental health courts; conducts welfare checks of individuals as requested by courts or other authorities; assists in the service of civil process and other duties as directed by Constables; performs other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited police academy and possession of TCLEOSE certification.
